We lived as a people, set in our ways and traditions. We had love and romance, and we had our issues and battles but we had a way to resolve them. Like other societies, we had subordinates but we were kind and friendly to them. Then came strangers interested in us as slaves and merchandise. They pitched us against one another and prevailed on us with their guns and ideas. But we stood their treatment and fought to defend ourselves. And while they treated us like slaves, we knew in our hearts that we were human, children of God, and great warriors of life!
Let us forgive the evils of slavery, let us learn the lessons in its history, and let us proceed with the resultant resolution towards building a better future of love, freedom, tolerance, and understanding. - Oliver Mbamara, Filmmaker, Slave Warrior
